Manmani Chai is a commissioned packaging redesign project for a client based in Kota, Rajasthan. The brief involved revamping the brand’s earlier packaging, Raju Chai , and reimagining it as a more premium offering for the Indian market. To differentiate the brand in the highly saturated tea category, the design shifts away from photographic visuals toward an illustration-led approach. This newer visual language allows Manmani Chai to feel contemporary, distinctive, and emotionally engaging while remaining rooted in everyday Indian tea culture.

As the brand evolved from Raju Chai to Manmani Chai, the client shared a set of guiding keywords for the redesign while remaining open to exploration in how the packaging could be interpreted and executed. This freedom allowed the design process to move beyond a literal refresh, resulting in a more considered, expressive, and premium visual direction.

The kettle illustrated on the Manmani Chai packaging draws inspiration from traditional Indian brass and steel kettles seen in homes and roadside chai stalls. In Indian tea culture, the kettle symbolizes warmth, hospitality, and daily ritual — from quiet mornings to shared evening conversations. By placing it at the center, the design anchors the brand in familiarity and heritage, while the ornamental detailing blends traditional craft aesthetics with a contemporary visual language.
